After working in Ottawa high tech for years at Corel Corporation and Hemera Technologies, Laura decided to pursue a law degree. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2005.

Laura joined WiLAN as senior legal counsel to the business, specializing in patent transactions, namely patent acquisitions, sales and complicated licensing transactions. Of note, she structured and negotiated a unique patent framework and subscription transaction with TSMC.
Laura was promoted to Senior VP Legal in charge of WiLAN’s legal department, managing core transactions for the business, overseeing internal processes around patent litigations, advising on contractual disputes, providing strategy and analysis for licensing defenses to infringement, giving advice on general regulatory compliance, handling corporate compliance for 70+ subsidiaries, advising on employment matters, and ultimately structuring the due diligence and supporting the sale of WiLAN as a going concern to U.S. private equity in 2023.
